Before I get into my big announcement, I thought it would be best to start at the beginning…
A few years ago I got a calendar from my friend Liz. Each month had an inspirational quote. Now, if you know my friend Liz, she is into the concept of the “secret”, quotes, putting things out in the universe, etc. Her calendar was very sweet and made total sense coming from her.
At the time, I was working at an IT consulting company in HR. The company had been bought out and I was miserable at my job under the new management. I decided to bring the calendar to work and hang it on my wall for inspiration (and of course to send my positive thoughts out into the universe). When the year was over I felt bad throwing the calendar away, so I kept it.
I was doing some cleaning at the end of last year when I came across the old calendar. I went through it and ripped out a couple of quotes I really liked. One of the quotes was “Life is short. Eat dessert first”. I mean, if everyone followed this rule just think how much happier people would be! The other quote was “It is never too late to be what you might have been.” I put this quote up in my back crafting studio as a reminder it’s never too late to do what you love.
At the beginning of 2013 I really started to think about this quote. I found myself dreaming of what I would love to be doing for a living, but in reality I was going through the motions of the safe career choice that “paid the bills”. I decided to stop thinking it was too late to do what I loved because I had put too much into a safe career path. In January I decided to start a blog where I could (at least) pretend I was doing what I loved, even if it was by night. That’s when I created my blog, Happiness is…Creating.
When I was thinking of a project to do for one of my blog posts, I happened to look at my calendar quote from Liz. I thought it would be cool to create my own version of the quote, but on canvas. I posted this CIY Quote Project on April 11, 2013.
After this, I really started vocalizing and imaging what it would be like to do what I loved for a living. I dedicated more of my time to my blog and posting content on a more regular basis. To make a long story a bit longer…Back in May I was in the right place at the right time and was offered a full-time job doing what I love! Holy sh*t! Putting it out in the universe REALLY does work! I started doing what I love back in July.
