CIY: Elephant Necklace

FINALLY!!!  I am so sorry for building up my elephant necklace, and then posting it a week later!  I was having some technical difficulties with my blog and since I am crafty (and not so techie), I was not able to post until it was fixed.

So, without further adieu, here is my CIY elephant necklace!

Make a Jcrew inspired necklace! ::

– Resin Chain

– Large Jump Ring

– Acrylic Paint (gold and purple)

– Elephant Charm (I found mine at Joann’s)

– Jewelry Wire

– Felt

– Small Beads

– Flat-Back Rhinestone

– Jewelry Tools

– Hot Glue Gun (and Glue)

– Super Glue

– Paint Brush

{Step 1}: Take your pliers and unhook your elephant from the charm.

{Step 2}:  Paint your elephant gold.  Let it dry.  Do a couple more coats of gold until your elephant has a nice gold color.

{Step 3}: On the top of your elephant, paint a purple square.  Let the paint dry.  Add as many coats of paint as you need until the purple is a nice color.

{Step 4}: (Optional) I added a clear coat of paint over my elephant to give it a glossy look.

{Step 5}: Put super glue around the perimeter of the square on your elephant. Glue your beads around the perimeter.  Then, glue one of your flat-back rhinestones to the eye area of your elephant.

Elephant Necklace //{Step 6}: Take your jewelry wire and place it behind the back of your elephant.  Measure enough wire to fit behind your elephant after a loop has been made at one end.  Cut your wire and use your jewelry tool (or pliers) to form a loop at one end.

{Step 7}: Put hot glue on the back of your elephant.  Glue the wire you just cut to your elephant so the loop is at the bottom.  Next, cut a piece of felt that will cover your wire. Once cut, glut the felt over the wire.  This will add extra hold.

{Step 8}: Grab your jump ring and open it.

{Step 9}: Put your jump ring through the top of your elephant, then run it through the opening in your chain.

{Step 10):  Then, open the loop you made on your elephant and slip the other end of your chain through the loop, and close it.

Your necklace is finished!
