CIY: Frenchie Sweater

I took a closer look at the J.Crew Frenchie sweater and thought it would actually be pretty easy to recreate.  With a little drawing action on my part, I was able to create a pretty good template of the little French Bulldog.  I think it’s pretty cute.

Frenchie Sweater

Supplies:

– Black sweater (or whatever color you want your dog on)

– Tan felt (1 sheet)

– Cream felt (1 sheet)

– Dark red  felt (1 shet)

– Black  felt

– 1/4 yard Under Wonder (fusible web)

– Frenchie Dog Pattern (click and print)

– Black thread

– Red thread (to match your dark red felt)

– Iron

– Sewing needle

– Scissors

Step 1: Cut out the Frenchie dog pattern, pin the body to the tan felt, and cut.

Step 2: Cut out the face, pin it to the cream felt, and cut.

Step 3: Cut out the eyes, nose, mouth and bow tie.  You will need to pin these to your black felt, and cut.  Cut out the mouth, pin to the dark red felt and cut.

Step 4: Place your cut eyes, nose, and mouth on the face of your Frenchie.

Step 5: You will now need to hand sew the eyes and nose with your black thread to your Frenchie face.  You will then hand sew the mouth with your red thread to your Frenchie face.

Step 6:  Now, it’s time to add some detail to your Frenchie face.  You will want to stitch up the ears to add some detail.  You will also want to add a couple of freckles to your Frenchie’s face.  You will want to sew the bow tie with your black thread to the middle part of the neck

Step 7: Now take your Frenchie body and face and pin to the top of your Under Wonder  (make sure this is on the textured side, and not the smooth paper side) and cut.  The Under Wonder is what will “glue” your Frenchie to your sweater.

Step 7: Make sure you add the paw detail to your Frenchie.  Take your black thread to sew on his little feet.

Step 8: Make sure your felt and Under Wonder are aligned.  Start ironing on the Under Wonder side.  This will melt the glue to your felt.  Follow the directions that come with the Under Wonder. Let cool.

Step 9: After your felt has cooled, you will want to tear the paper away from your felt.  Find a corner and gently rip it away from the fabric.  This will expose the other sticky side of the Under Wonder.

Step 10: Place your Frenchie body on the center of your sweater with the glue side down.

Step 11: Iron over your Frenchie pressing down hard.  You want to make sure the heat setting on your iron is not too high.  You don’t want to melt your felt!  Follow the directions that came with your Under Wonder.  Let Cool.

You now have your very own Frenchie Sweater!  Thanks for the idea J.Crew.  Mine only cost $6.00 :)
