Here’s My Hat

My “Derday” was a success!  Well, at least my hat was (I did not end the day any richer).  In anticipation for a rainy day, I decided to scratch the idea I had using tissue paper for my derby hat.  I figured rain and tissue paper would not mix well.  So, I decided to go with a gigantic fabric bow on my hat instead.

We really lucked out (weather-wise). I was expecting a cold and rainy day, but it ended up being a beautiful, sunny day! My hat doubled as a sun hat – score! It was a perfect birthday, even though I did not win any money.  I was surprised how many people had May 4th birthdays.  There were 3 of us on my train to the race track and one guy who sat in front of me at the racetrack all with the same birthday.  Here’s to May 4th babies! :)

Hat Details:

I bought my hat from Forver 21.  I put painters tape around the brim of my hat to create stripes and painted the stripes yellow.  I then took some yellow ribbon and glued it around the top of my hat.  To make my hat more dramatic, I decided to add a obnoxiously large fabric bow to the side of it.  Thinking next year I will have to create something more comical and less “cute”.  Let the ideas start coming…
