How to Make a Plant Stand Out of a Tomato Cage

DIYTomatoCagePlantStand_2

A couple of months back I was out and about doing some alley trolling since it felt like it had been forever since I found an alley treasure.  My initial reason for poking around other people’s garbage was to see if I could get lucky and find some used Little Tikes pieces. These plastic toys are great since they can be washed up and are basically good as new! (more…)

DIY Gold Hexagon Embellished Journal

DIY Gold Hexagon Embellished Journal

Living in a very tech-centered world means everything we do is done digitally/electronically. We send emails instead of regular mail, we keep track of important meetings and dates on our digital calendars, and we even get directions from our smartphones instead of using a paper map. Being so digitally driven is nice and all, but sometimes it’s nice to go back to the basics when everything was much simpler.

DIY Gold Hexagon Embellished Journal

There is nothing better than sitting down with a cup of coffee or tea and jotting down your to-dos for the day.  There is something to be said about physically writing an idea down as opposed to typing it into a phone, laptop, or tablet. It is so fulfilling to cross off each to-do once it has been completed. Having a notebook on hand is also a (more…)

8 DIY Tote Bags to Take to the Beach

One of the things I love most about the city of Chicago is our lakefront.  We’re lucky enough to live in a big city, but also have a huge body of water we can enjoy during the warmer months.

When heading to the beach you can’t just toss all of your essentials into just any old bag. You need to head to the beach in style.  Now,  you don’t need to spend a lot of money on  cute beach when you can whip one up yourself!  I’ve rounded-up eight colorful and trendy bags perfect for the pool or beach.  These beach bags aren’t just for the beach.  You can also take them to the grocery store, a picnic or use them as your summer work bag!  (more…)

DIY Wood Burned Chicago Skyline Sign

DIY Wood Burned Chicago Skyline Sign

Have you ever tried wood burning?   I have to admit, I was a little unsure of this art form since everything I’ve ever seen that’s been wood burned looks way more advanced than my crafty skill level.  I just assumed you had to be an expert at wood burning to create anything that looks remotely professional. Little did I know, all you need is either a stencil or some transfer paper to create really cool and simple artwork.  The best part is anyone can wood burn even if you’ve never touched a wood burner before!  (more…)

Create a Mini Mid-Century Modern Plant Stand

DIY Plant Stand

I‘ve had a jade plant in my home now for over 10 years. It got so out-of-control big that I eventually had to cut it back a bit since the branches were starting to bend over from the weight of the leaves. I took all of the cut branches and replanted them (did you know you could do that with jades?!?!). I added one of the Jade branches to a square cement planter I had made. My planter has been sitting (more…)

I was looking at my inspiration earrings and decided I could not choose just one to create.  So, I decided to take two of the earring designs and marry them together!

I really liked the look of the pyramid shaped earrings and the finish of the round faceted earrings.  So, the combo of these two earrings is what inspired my DIY.  (more…)

DIY Kid’s Shaker Key Chain

Why is it that kids love anything that is not a toy?  I know when it comes to new toys, most kids are more interested in the box and the packaging the toy came in rather than the actual toy itself!  I’ve actually started saving old yogurt tubs and blueberry packaging since my kids love garbage so much.  (more…)

Lantern Update with Rust-Oleum

It’s that time again when I turn to the outdoors to do a little decorating.  I treat my porch like another room in my house.  As the years go by, I like to give it a refresh and change out the decor (I got this design change-up bug from my mom :D).

When I was taking inventory of all my outdoor decor, I noticed my red lantern looked a little rough.  It was once vibrant red, but after years spent in the sun and rain it’s now faded and the red is super dull.  I wanted to breathe some life into with a fresh coat of paint.  So, I grabbed some Rust-Oleum spray paint which is perfect for metal and outdoor pieces like my lantern.  I really wanted to make sure I used the correct paint so I’m not repainting it again next year!

When I was at Home Depot looking at all of the gorgeous Rust-Oleum paint colors, I decided to switch it up a bit and instead of getting red, I got a rose gold color.  I thought this color would be a nice neutral that will go great with whatever changes I make to my porch decor in the next couple of years!  In my book, you can never go wrong with gold.  Check out the video below to see just how easy it to transform an outdoor lantern with Rust-Oleum spray paint!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Rust-Oleum Spray Paint

– Cloth

– Drop Cloth
